Why Would Thieves Leave a Motorcycle Nearby?

Some thieves do not immediately take a stolen motorcycle to its final destination. Instead, they may leave it temporarily in a quiet street, car park, alleyway or another concealed location nearby.

There can be several reasons:

• They want to see whether the motorcycle is being tracked
• They plan to return with a van or other transport
• They are waiting until there is less activity in the area
• They need time before moving or dismantling the motorcycle

Not every theft follows this pattern. However, the first location after a motorcycle begins moving may be more important than it appears.

A Short Journey Does Not Mean the Danger Is Over

Imagine your motorcycle moves 800 metres and then remains stationary.

It may look as though the tracker has stopped updating - but the motorcycle could simply have been parked or hidden.

Watch the movement pattern carefully:

• Did the motorcycle stop in a nearby residential area?
• Has it remained in one location?
• Did it move again several hours later?
• Is the tracker showing a current or last known position?

Screenshots of locations and movement times can help create a clearer timeline for the police.

What Should You Do?

If your motorcycle disappears:

1. Contact the police immediately.
2. Explain that the motorcycle has a GPS tracker.
3. Share its live or last known location.
4. Save screenshots of the route, times and stops.
5. Provide the registration number, VIN, photographs and distinguishing features.

Never confront suspected thieves or attempt to recover the motorcycle alone. A map position can be useful evidence, but your personal safety comes first.
